How to remove ‘Internet Download Manager IDM has been registered with a fake Serial Number’ error?
Here in this post, I will be sharing two methods to remove this error.
Let’s start with the methods to resolve problem of IDM pop up error ‘Internet Download Manager IDM has been registered with the fake serial number’.
Method 1: Editing the Hosts File
Step-1 Close all the process of IDM from Task Manager.
Step-2 Browse to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
Step-3 Right click on the “hosts” file and Select “Open with”. Now, choose Notepad.
Step-4 Paste the following Code at the end of the text and save it.
127.0.0.1 tonec.com
127.0.0.1 www.tonec.com
127.0.0.1 registeridm.com
127.0.0.1 www.registeridm.com
127.0.0.1 secure.registeridm.com
127.0.0.1 internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 www.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 secure.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 mirror.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 mirror2.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 mirror3.internetdownloadmanager.com

Step-5 While Saving you will get error in Windows 7, 8, 8.1 Pro. However You will not get error in Windows XP. If Error persist follow these steps.
Step-5.1 Right click on “hosts” file. Choose “Properties”.
Click on “Security” tab. Then click on “Edit” option as shown in the below image
Step-5.2 Now a new box of "Permissions for host" will pop up.
Choose your User and mark a tick on Full Control then Apply > OK
That’s it. You’re done. Restart your PC and run IDM without any interruption.
Method 2: Tricking with IDM files
Step-1 Open C: Drive and navigate to ‘Internet Download Manager’ folder in program files
Step-2 In open window, search and delete ‘IDMGrHlp.exe’ file. And copy ‘idmBroker.exe’ from same folder and paste it in same folder.
Step-3 Once you done with Step-2. Now rename the copied file of ‘idmBroker - Copy.exe’ to ‘IDMGrHlp.exe’ as shown below in screenshot
Step-4 Now last step is to restart your PC to apply changes and Get rid of Pop up error
